ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Eons of erosion by wind and water have created intricate and sensuously curving patterns in the rock of Arizona's Slot Canyons. The ever-changing patterns of light and shadow dance through twisted, secret places and the river curves below high cliffs, providing fantastic opportunities to take exhilarating photographs that feature unique shapes and textures. You will learn the best times of day to capture magical, mythical images of light breaking through the cracks in the canyons.

This is a shooting-intensive workshop, with Craig providing hands-on, one-on-one guidance in the field as needed. Images you will see in your viewfinder include the various spectacular red rock formations in and around the Slot Canyons, shafts of light coming through the rocks, the desert landscape, and gorgeous sunsets. Whether you are pointing your camera at a magnificent rock formation or capturing the dynamic weather that is common here, you'll have many opportunities to make great photographs.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

All photographers are welcome. This is a shooting-intensive photography workshop. You should be prepared to carry your own gear and be comfortable with and capable of climbing up and down the ladders into the canyons, and walking/hiking on sandy soil and rocky terrain. You should have a good understanding of your camera, digital or film, in order to get the most out of this workshop.

WHAT TO BRING

Lots of enthusiasm for making pictures. Your digital camera with lenses, a tripod and filters. A laptop computer to download your images to for safekeeping. (We will provide a complete list of necessary gear before the workshop begins.)

SCHEDULE

We will depart from the Car Rental Building at the Albuquerque Sunport (airport) on Monday, April 9th, at 11:00 a.m. We will arrive back at that location late Friday, April 13th. If you are flying to Albuquerque, we recommend you arrive on Sunday April 8th, and book lodging near the airport for that evening. We also recommend that you book lodging for the night of Friday, April 13th, and plan to fly home on Saturday, April 14th in case we are late with our return to Albuquerque after the workshop.
