IN THIS SEMI-PRIVATE WORKSHOP you
will explore the diverse culture and landscape of Northern
New
Mexico
in this
workshop,
learning
how best to capture the “power and beauty” with
your camera. Come photograph the enchanted land that profoundly
influenced artists like Georgia O'Keeffe, Ansel Adams, Elliot
Porter
and many others.
We’ll
consider an aesthetics of New Mexico — a way of seeing
land and light, people and place, mountain and adobe mission — that
is both a celebration and a challenge; to see the magic and
beauty of New Mexico and to make our own images from intimate
portraitures to magnificent landscapes.
Field trips involve exploring how to capture
the essence of a place — from picking the best vantage point to
photograph to knowing what filter to use; shooting natural
light portraits; and learning the patience to set up your
tripod and wait for the light. The challenge of the photographer
will be to capture the intensity and beauty of people and
place and of light and shadow. Subjects that participants
will have the opportunity to photograph could include: historic
adobe haciendas, ponds, desert and mountain landscapes, shepherd’s
huts, farm houses, trees, creeks, chapels, a mountain man
or cowboy with his horse, sunrises and sunsets.
This workshop is open to all photographers
interested in exploring the diverse landscape, peoples and
architecture
of New Mexico with their camera. You should have a working
knowledge of your camera, film or digital. Digital shooters
must bring a laptop computer with editing software and be
self sufficient with their computer and software.
