ABOUT THE WORKSHOP The light and land of New Mexico that have drawn poets, artists, painters, and photographers for over a century will be our focus for the week. In this workshop, you will walk this enchanted land with award-winning photographer Craig Varjabedian, photographing a unique environment in an atmosphere of adventure, exploration, and discovery. Craig has explored and photographed New Mexico for over thirty years and will share his favorite places with you. Here are hidden landscapes splashed with color and texture, shady and quiet back roads, premier photographic possibilities from the morning light arching over the mountains to enchanted mesas and adobe ruins. Field trips focus on how to wait for the magical New Mexico light and how to capture the essence of a place — from picking the best vantage point to knowing when to use your tripod or what lens. In class sessions you and Craig and your fellow students will critique one another's digital images and discuss many aspects of the medium. Topics included in this workshop: WHAT YOU WILL LEARN Whether you are pointing your camera at a magnificent rock formation or capturing the dynamic weather that is common here, you'll spend time challenging yourself and improving your image-making abilities. Craig will talk about personal style and learning how to visualize a photograph before you create it. On field shoots, you will receive one-on-one instruction and attention while you work with your camera, with emphasis on encouraging you to think more deeply about how you create photographs. Constructive image-sharing sessions in a collegial environment will provide valuable insight on ways you can improve your pictures. WHO SHOULD ATTEND This workshop is terrific for all digital photographers who have a good understanding of their camera and are able to edit images on a laptop computer. WHAT TO BRING Lots of enthusiasm for making pictures. Your digital camera with lenses, a tripod and filters. A laptop computer with image-editing software.
